Rena's Sunday Chicken As Submitted by Jeanie and Adapted by Alysun

I found this recipe in the cook book put out by my childhood church. Whenever I am looking at recipes, I look at who submitted it. Concerning the church that I grew up in, most everyone was a great cook, but there were some who made frightening things like Rabbit Pot Pie. I miss pot-lucks at church. You can tell so much about people by the food they prepare.

This recipe was the pastor's wife's Sunday Chicken recipe and it was submitted by another fantastic cook, so I figured it was worth a try. I was worried because the bake time is so long, but the chicken turns out really moist, just a little greasy, crisp and so yummy. Skip KFC on the way home from church because this chicken is better. Let it cook while you are at church and make sure to invite company.

Mix together in a plastic bag:
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp. Laury's Seasoning salt
1/4 tsp. poultry seasoning -- I didn't have any and the recipe still tasted great
1/4 tsp. paprika (optional) -- I added paprika for some color

Shake 1 whole chicken cut up in flour mixture. Place pieces in a greased 9x13 pan, skin side up. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Dot tops of chicken with thin slices of butter (about 1/4 cup). Add 1/2 cup water to pan and place in a 275 degree oven for 3 hours.

I made this for company last week with country gravy and mashed potatoes. Very yummy!
